Good Vibes for a Classic Race

3. August 2014

UCI Mountainbike World Cup - Mont Sainte Anne, Canada

Heading for the 21st edition of the World Cup race in Mont Sainte Anne (Canada) record winner Julien Absalon brings lots of good vibes with him. He is accompanied by four of his team mates who are also fired up for this classic race after a two month break in World Cup competition. Their common goal is to extend their lead in the overall team ranking.

Julien Absalon is a five time winner of the UCI World Cup race which takes place close to the St. Lawrence River. He celebrated his most recent victory in 2013. Therefore it‘s no surprise that good vibes are guaranteed when he returns to Mont Sainte Anne. And they will even be intensified this week due to the birth of his second son, Luca, who was born on Friday.

„I guess I will still feel a bit tired, but I will pin my hopes on this buoyant spirit prompted by Luca‘s birth. Anyway, I will try to gather as many points as possible," explains the Frenchman, referring to the overall ranking where he currently has a commanding lead.

Lukas Flückiger will also bring a good portion of self-confidence with him to North America. On Sunday he had won a charity race in favor of a cancer foundation, just ahead of his team mate Ralph Naef. Whereas Flückiger will aim for his first World Cup podium this season, Naef‘s minimum target is to reach the top ten. „The last few months were not so good, but now the feeling is better", says Naef who had finished forth on Mont Sainte Anne's technically demanding course last year.

Moritz Milatz is bursting to tie in with the top results that he had achieved in Nove Mesto (3rd) and in Albstadt (5th). „I‘m optimistic, even though things have always been somewhat tough for me in Canada so far", says Milatz. Last but not least, US short track champion Stephen Ettinger will also have high ambitions for the competition on Sunday. Gaining a top team result, the BMC quintet could also expand its lead in the team standings.
