First race, first win: victory of Julien Absalon in the Charbonnière Trophy

10. March 2013

Montauroux, France

Julien Absalon didn't miss the start of his XCO racing season. In the first race on his BMC Team Elite 29er, the French Champion cruised to victory on the muddy trails around Montauroux in the South of France.

Even though this was only a regional race, it was an important first test for the double Olympic champion, both in terms of his own physical fitness, but certainly also a first test with the new equipment.
At the finish, Absalon stated : "We just finished our training camp with the BMC MTB Racing Team on Friday in Cap Esterel, so I was very happy to finally test both my shape and the new material during racing conditions. The wetter has been quite untypical to what one would expect at the Cote d'Azur, with lots of rain during the last week. But everything went just great. I had a good sensation on the Team Elite 29er. In the beginning of the race, I followed Max Urruty (rider from the French national development team), I attacked during a technical descent and could ride solo to the finish from there. I am very pleased with the equipment as well, everything functioned perfectly. "

Julien will now continue his preparation for the first national race of the year, the Off Road next week in Cassis, France.
