Double Win at the hors catégorie race in Haiming

4. May 2014

Haiming, Österreich

BMC's Ralph Näf and Lukas Flückiger took a double win at the Oetztal Bike Festival in Haiming. Ralph Näf was ecstatic about his first victory of the season at the HC class race in Austria, confirming the positive trend he showed during the last weeks.

„I'm really happy about the way things have been going recently. Thinking back to the races in Cyprus, I notice that now everything is much easier than I would have expected. I am able to really pedal hard and I feel good," explained Ralph Näf after the race. Näf was sidelined in February due to a thigh injury.

In Haiming he pulled clear from the lead group together with Gerhard Kerschbaumer. When the Italian suffered a mechanical in the fifth of seven laps it was a smooth solo ride to the win for Näf. „We used Conti dry weather tires on this rooty terrain. The soft compound provided superior grip. That was a great advantage for sure," said Näf, concerning their choice of materials.

Lukas Flückiger for his part had no problems on the challenging sections of the course either. However, he was displeased about his performance in the initial phase of the race. But halfway through the race he increased his speed and blew up the chase group.

„I am pretty happy with second place. There is still enough time before the World Cup in Nove Mesto to work on upping my pace from the start," said Flückiger. On the last lap he had to deal with a front wheel puncture which kept him from catching up with Ralph at the head of the race.
