Van Avermaet Third At Binche-Chimay-Binche

8. October 2013

The one-day-race Binche-Chimay-Binche (Mémorial Frank Vandenbroucke) on Tuesday in Belgium was one for the classic guys. BMC Racing Team's Greg Van Avermaet finished in third place on the podium. The new course of former Binche-Tournay-Binche ended with the same hard uphill sprint in the final lap.

Good team performance
A quintet with BMC Racing Team's stagiaire Silvan Dillier was in a break for the last 10 kilometers of the race, but was caught one kilometer to go. Then Greg Van Avermaet attacked, but Reinhardt Janse Van Rensburg (Team Argos Shimano) and Bjorn Leukemans (Vacansoleil-DCM) made it across to the belgian and Van Rensburg attacked immediately. He opened a gap and his two big-name companions couldn't close it any more. Leukemans beat Van Avermaet in the sprint for second.

Also the rest of the BMC Racing Team performed well in the 187.6-kilometer race. Michael Schär, Klaas Lodewyck and Yannick Eijssen were part of different breakaways. Schär tried an attack in the finish. "I am very satisfied with the team work today, our guys did a great job. Greg had good legs. He is very strong, but he went a little bit too early", said Assistant Director Yvon Ledanois, who has a big trust in the team. "This was the last test before Paris-Tours on Sunday. A victory should be possible."
