Tour of Austria, Stage 8: Oss Eighth

7. July 2013

Daniel Oss finished eighth in Sunday's final stage of the Tour of Austria, capping a week that saw the BMC Racing Team win three straight stages and earn two runner-up placings.

Strong Team Working Well
Assistant Director Jackson Stewart said if there was a disappointment among the successes, it was not getting a higher overall placing for Mathias Frank, who suffered in the opening two days from stomach issues and the effects of a crash at the Swiss national championships. After Norwegian road champion Thor Hushovd and Daniel Oss went 1-2 on Stage 3, Frank soloed to victories on mountain-top finishes on Stages 4 and 5 and Italian time trial champion Marco Pinotti was runner-up in Saturday's Stage 7 individual time trial. "I knew Mathias was on really great form coming in, having led the Tour de Suisse for nearly the whole race," Stewart said. "But we had two hard days to start the race where he had to be right on point and that just wasn't the case. But it was impressive of him to come back and win stages and really good to see such a strong team working well around him." Omar Bertazzo (Androni Giocattoli) won the final stage that ended in a bunch sprint and Riccardo Zoidl (Team Gourmetfein-Simplon) took the overall.
