Tour de Wallonie, Stage 1: Adam Blythe 10th

21. July 2012

Adam Blythe finished 10th for the BMC Racing Team Saturday in the opening stage of the Tour de Wallonie Saturday.

Final Kilometers Chaotic
French national road champion Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ-Big Mat) won the bunch sprint finish at the end of the 159.7-kilometer race. BMC Racing Team's Klaas Lodewyck, who was with teammate Greg Van Avermaet in an early 22-man breakaway, said the final kilometers were a bit chaotic. "Adam lost my wheel near the end because there were a lot of guys without much experience who were near the front," Lodewyck said. BMC Racing Team Assistant Sport Director Rik Verbrugghe said Blythe should get another chance to go for a stage win in the five-day race. "He's missing some rhythm and needs some more races," Verbrugghe said. "But tomorrow and the day after are a bit harder, so but maybe the last stage will be a sprint again." Van Avermaet said he steered clear of the sprint in order to stay out of danger as he prepares for the Olympic road race.
