Tour de Suisse, Stage 5: Van Avermaet Top 10 Again

15. June 2011

Tobel-Tägerschen, Switzerland

Greg Van Avermaet of the BMC Racing Team scored his second straight top 10 finish Wednesday at the Tour de Suisse with ninth place in the 204-kilometer race that ended with a bunch sprint.

Leadout Too Soon
Van Avermaet, seventh in Tuesday's stage, said the strong leadout he received might have actually been a bit too early. "With one kilometer to go, I made it to the front with Marcus (Burghardt) helping," he said. "With 400 meters to go, I was on the front, but we had to wait because it was too far to go full out. Then a few riders came out of the back with more speed." Borut Bozic (Vacansoleil-DCM) won the race while the overall standings – with Damiano Cunego (Lampre-ISD) as leader – remained unchanged.
