Tour de San Luis, Stage 4: Van Garderen Into Second Overall

24. January 2013

BMC Racing Team's Tejay van Garderen rode to a seventh place finish in Thursday's individual time trial, good enough to move into second overall behind new race leader Michal Kwiatkowski (Omega Pharma-Quick Step).

Only 23 Seconds Behind
Astride his BMC timemachine TM01, van Garderen clocked a time of 22:37 on the 19.2-kilometer course, conceding 33 seconds to stage winner Sven Tuft (Orica-GreenEDGE). The best young rider at last year's Tour de France and Paris-Nice is now 23 seconds behind Kwiatkowski, who finished third in the time trial. Friday's 169.8 km stage ends with two categorized climbs in the final 25 kilometers, including one that is 10.5 km long and averages 7.2 percent.
