Tour de Pologne, Stage 6: Battling The Elements

5. August 2011

Bukowina Tatrzańska, Poland

Driving rain, combined with a course profile that resembled a buzz saw, created abominable conditions that made Friday's stage of the Tour de Pologne a battle against the elements.

Santambrogio Best On The Day

For the BMC Racing Team, Mauro Santambrogio was the top finisher on the 207.7 km stage that finished a half-hour behind the slowest anticipated time. By crossing the line 22nd, 54 seconds behind stage winner Dan Martin (Garmin-Cervélo), he climbed into 20th overall, 1:17 behind Martin, who took the overall lead with one day to go. "Mauro did a great job today," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Michael Sayers said. "He did it all by himself out there." Saturday's final stage is a 128 km circuit race in Krakow.
