"Montepaschi Strade Bianche" was good experience for the Giro d'Italia.

The demanding course of the one-day race, the "Montepaschi Strade Bianche", formerly known as "L'Eroica", ran 190 km from Gaiole to Sienna. The riders had to cover eight sections of gravel road with a total length of 57 km. “It was very difficult and unfortunately we were not well positioned when a group of 28 riders broke away. However, it was good experience for the Giro d'Italia. A key stage passes over this route. It was very good preparation, also in respect to equipment and organization,” said the sporting director John Lelangue. The winner was Maxim Iglinskiy (Astana).
