Giro d'Italia, Stage 2: Bunch Sprint

8. May 2011

Parma, Italy

Alexander Kristoff finished 11th for the BMC Racing Team Sunday in the bunch sprint that ended the second-longest stage of the Giro d'Italia.

Swarmed Near The End

Kristoff said teammates Simon Zahner and Danilo Wyss helped him get to the front. "But with two kilometers to go (of 242 km), I got swarmed and had to use a lot of energy to get back," Kristoff said. "My sprint was OK, but I was just too far back and really at my limit at the end." Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-ISD) won the sprint ahead of Mark Cavendish (HTC-Highroad), who took the overall lead. Chris Barton crashed in the feed zone, but was not seriously hurt, BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Max Sciandri said.
