Giro d'Italia, Stage 15: Tschopp Moves Up

On another rain-soaked day at the Giro d'Italia, BMC Racing Team's Marco Pinotti briefly went down on a slick corner while teammate Johann Tschopp finished 15th to continue his climb up the overall standings.

Pinotti slid out on on a left-hand bend as he and several others were pursuing Matteo Rabottini (Farnese Vini-Selle Italia), who had been in a breakaway from the first 20 kilometers of the 169 km race. "During a turn in a downhill, I felt my back wheel moving and in fact I was having a flat tire and it made me crash", he said. Pinotti managed to get up quickly, but he explained the chase back to his group tired him and fell back on the finishing climb. Meanwhile, Rabottini was caught by Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha Team) in the final 400 meters of the race but managed to out-sprint him and take the stage win. Rodriguez regained the race lead while Tschopp rolled in 52 seconds later to move up three spots to 14th overall (3:24 behind) with a week to go "I am happy because I feel my condition improving day by day here, that's a good sign for the coming stages". Ahead of the rest day, BMC Racing Team's Sport Director Fabio Baldato said the team was about to get a well deserve rest day for the great work accomplished "I am happy about Marco's work, he made a beautiful stage and Tschopp is still impressive, I hope he will keep following the good wheels, because he demonstrated he has very good legs," he said.
