Giro d'Italia, 14th stage: Evans makes up time

22. May 2010

Asolo, Italy

In Saturday's 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia from Ferrara to Asolo, over a distance of 210 km, Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team achieved fourth place. It means that the world champion moves up the overall rankings to 10th place.

Climbing ability required

46 kilometers before the finish, on the 18.2 km climb up 1675-meter-high Monte Grappa, a four-man breakaway appeared at the front, made up of Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team, Michele Scarponi (Androni Giocattoli), Ivan Basso and Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas). Although they passed the summit, Nibali of Italy pulled away on the descent and won the stage well clear of the others. The new wearer of the pink jersey is David Arroyo (Caisse d'Epargne). Tomorrow, Sunday, the battle for time will be continued on the ascent of Monte Zoncolan, with a gradient of up to 22 percent.
