BMC Racing Cup 2012

BMC becomes title sponsor of renowned „Racer Bikes Cup"
press release: Grenchen/Switzerland, November 29th 2011

The threatening end
The foundation of Swiss Mountainbiking was shaking. The end seemed inevitable when the title sponsor of Switzerland's international cross country racing series terminated its engagement. "We are still looking for a new sponsor", exclaimed the series' website, looking for financial backing to secure its future existence. Founded in 1994 by former national coach Andreas Seeli, the series has long reached international recognition. There are few world or Olympic champions in the sport of cross country mountainbiking that have not lined up at one of the seven Swiss venues. Nevertheless, the series seemed destined to disappear from the UCI calendar. Until the shaking reached Grenchen.

"We would endanger Switzerland's dominance in MTB"
"The MTB segment is playing an important role at BMC. As a Swiss-based company, we need a Swiss racing series in order to create national and international impact", evaluates CEO Thomas Binggeli of new series title sponsor BMC. He adds: "There is no way we would lose our most important races and therefore threaten an important part of our domestic athlete development concept. We would endanger Switzerland's dominance in mountainbiking".

BMC support of MTB
The support of bike racing beyond BMC Racing Team's Tour de France victory 2011 on the road has not only come through BMC's engagement in the 2012 BMC Racing Cup. The Swiss bike manufacturer founded its first professional mountainbiking team January 1st 2011 that was built around German double champion Moritz Milatz. "The BMC Racing Cup series will give our BMC Mountainbike Racing Team a fantastic platform to establish itself at the world class level. We are looking forward to seven great events that we want to share with our partners and customers here in Switzerland", says Thomas Binggeli.

BMC Racing Cup 2012: New name. Established concept.
Seven venues. Focus on the development of young athletes. World class athletes to attract media and spectators. The concept of organizer Andreas Seeli has proven itself for many years. It is now carried on under the new umbrella "BMC Racing Cup". "I am happy to have found BMC as the new partner to carry on our tradition of investing into and building up young athletes. I am convinced that Swiss mountainbike racing and the entire bike industry will benefit from this partnership", Seeli is looking into the future.
