Volta a Catalunya, Stage 6: Maintaining Position

A day more difficult than expected for the BMC Racing Team ended as planned Saturday, with Cadel Evans preserving his grip on a top 10 position at the Volta a Catalunya.

Evans Still Ninth

Brent Bookwalter, who guided Evans across the line after José Joaquín Rojas (Movistar) won a bunch sprint, said allergy problems only added to his own suffering in the 195-kilometer race. "The profiles and maps haven't really been true to the race books here, so the first two hours were unexpectedly hard and had everyone on the ropes," Bookwalter said. "But we've been riding well and learning to ride with each other better throughout the week, so that bodes well for the last day." Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-SunGard) kept the overall lead, 50 seconds ahead of Evans.
