Van Garderen Fifth At Paris-Nice

11. marzo 2012

BMC Racing Team's Tejay van Garderen came away with fifth place overall and the Best Young Rider classification at Paris-Nice after finishing 14th in Sunday's uphill time trial.

'A Good Result'
Bradley Wiggins (Sky Procycling) won the 9.6-kilometer race to up the Col d'Èze to secure the overall victory. Van Garderen was 75 seconds off the winning time and 1:54 behind Wiggins in the final standings. "I was hoping a little bit for a podium at the end of the day," he said. "I felt good out there. I was surprised when I crossed the line because I thought for sure it was going to be a good time. But at the end of the day, fifth place and best young rider is a good result in a race like Paris-Nice." Amaël Moinard, who was the BMC Racing Team's second-best finisher in the time trial (31st, 1:46 behind), said he went as hard as he could, motivated by being able to race on roads close to his home. "It's a difficult time trial because it starts directly with a steep climb," he said. "It's also difficullt because you are constantly trying to find your rhythm because of the nature of the climb."
