With three riders in the lead group Friday at the Tour of the Basque Country, the BMC Racing Team positioned Martin Kohler for the sprint. But riders in front of him blocked him in the final meters, leading to a 15th-place finish.

Great Teamwork

"The plan was to save Martin for the end since there were a lot of sprinters dropped," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Rik Verbrugghe said. "We did a good move with Mathias Frank and Ivan Santaromita bringing him to the front in the headwind. I was happy he was there, and the team did a great job for him today." Amaël Moinard was also active in several early breakaways. Francesco Gavazzi (Lampre-ISD) got the win after Oscar Freire (Rabobank) was relegated. Joaquim Rodríguez (Katusha) kept the lead with only Saturday's 24-kilometer time trial remaining.
