Tour of Beijing, Stage 2: Kristoff Fifth

6. ottobre 2011

Men Tou Gou, China

BMC Racing Team's Alexander Kristoff finished fifth while Brent Bookwalter was involved in a crash in the final two kilometers Thursday at the Tour of Beijing.

Bookwalter's Crash

The BMC Racing Team brought Kristoff to the front in the final four kilometers of the 137 km race, but disaster struck shortly thereafter when a Quick Step rider went sideways. "It happened on a right hand corner with some barriers where it came down to one lane," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Michael Sayers said. Bookwalter has moderate road rash to his arms, legs and face, BMC Racing Team Dr. Scott Major said. "I hit my head pretty hard," Bookwalter said. "It felt like someone came up under my arm and handlebars, lifted me up and threw me on the ground." Bookwalter said he will see how he feels Friday before making a decision on whether to start Stage 3.

Kristoff Held Up
Up ahead, Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Cervélo) was taking the win over Denis Galimzyanov (Katusha) in a photo finish. Kristoff said he had good position but was held up when the rider in front of him, Daniel Oss of Liquigas-Cannondale, dropped his chain. "I got a bit blocked, but fifth is a good start," Kristoff said. "It was great work by the whole team – especially John (Murphy) and Danilo (Wyss) in the final two kilometers." Stage 1 winner Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad) held onto the overall lead.
