Tour de Wallonie, Stage 1: Two In The Top 10

20. luglio 2013

BMC Racing Team's Daniel Oss finished seventh and teammate Greg Van Avermaet was eighth as a breakaway of five survived to the finish on Saturday's opening stage of the Tour de Wallonie.

Phinney Splits The Pack
Alexander Kolobner (Katusha Team) took the win, 24 seconds before Oss and Van Avermaet sprinted to second and third in a bunch of about 50 riders. Kolobner's group emerged after a different initial breakaway of five enjoyed an eight-minute lead but was eventually overtaken after an acceleration by BMC Racing Team's Taylor Phinney on a small climb split the peloton with 40 kilometers of the 189.7-km race to go. "Unfortunately, we missed the winning move," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Jackson Stewart said. "But we did what we could. In the end, it was just a hard group to bring back." Oss said he and Van Avermaet waited for the sprint and left the majority of the chasing to Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Lotto Belisol, which had more riders represented. "I was feeling good," Oss said. "The sprint was hard with a small group. I started it with 200 meters to go and only one person passed me on the line."
