Tour de Suisse, Stage 8: Frank Climbs Into Top 15

16. giugno 2012

Mathias Frank of the BMC Racing Team climbed from 18th to 15th in the overall standings and kept his hold on the Best Swiss Rider classification on Saturday's penultimate stage of the Tour de Suisse.

'Quite A Long Climb'
Frank was quite familiar with the leg-breaking, 30-kilometer ascent to the ski resort town of Arosa that came at the end of the 148.2 km race. In 2007, he won an identical stage on the GP Tell. "It's quite a long climb," Frank said. "The first part is really hard. With the tailwind we had today, the middle part wasn't too hard. But then the last three kilometers are really difficult." Michael Albasini (Orica-GreenEDGE), second in the Best Swiss Rider standings, soloed to the stage win but it wasn't enough to unseat Frank, who finished 18th on the day, 2:25 later. Rui Costa (Movistart Team) takes a 14-second lead into the final day while the BMC Racing Team moved into fourth in the team standings – helped by  Marcus Burghardt (29th) and Martin Kohler (42nd). Sunday's final 215.8 km stage includes two "above category" climbs and a summit finish. "I wanted to move up more today in the GC, but I just didn't have the legs," Frank said. " I was hoping to do something extra. It's all I can do at the moment."
