Tour de Pologne, Stage 7: Staying Safe

16. luglio 2012

When the skies opened up and rain poured down late in Monday's final stage of the Tour de Pologne, the BMC Racing Team took a better-safe-than-sorry approach on a slick finish circuit in Kraków.

Van Avermaet Finishes 18th Overall
Marco Pinotti, who will represent Italy in the road race at the Olympics, said the rain only made the technical circuit more dangerous. "In this type of situation, if you're not fighting for the general classification or you don't have a sprinter, the main thing is to be safe," Pinotti said. "Especially looking forward to the Olympic Games, I didn't want to have any trouble." Greg Van Avermaet was the BMC Racing Team's best finisher (57th) as John Degenkolb (Argos-Shimano) won the stage. Van Avermaet (18th) was also best-placed in final standings of the race that was won by double-stage winner Moreno Moser (Liquigas-Cannondale). Pinotti said he comes out of two weeks of racing confident in his preparation for London. "I started in Austria, so these 15 days of racing was like two weeks of a Grand Tour," he said. "So I should come out well after four or five days of resting."
