Tour de Pologne, Stage 7: Kristoff Sixth On Final Stage

7. agosto 2010

Krakow, Poland

The BMC Racing Team wrapped up its first Tour de Pologne Saturday with a sixth-place finish in the sprint by Alexander Kristoff to go along with Alessandro Ballan's fifth place overall.

Santambrogio's Difficulties
The BMC Racing Team lost out on a second top 10 finish overall when Mauro Santambrogio suffered a mechanical problem in the final 10 kilometers. With the leaders moving fast on the rain-soaked streets of Krakow, the Italian was unable to chase back and slipped from seventh to 24th. "We're just fortunate Mauro did not crash," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said.

No Good Luck
André Greipel (HTC-Columbia) took the stage win and Dan Martin (Garmin-Transitions) won the race overall. Ballan finished 21 seconds behind Martin after winning this race in 2009. Early in the final stage, the former world champion and Santambrogio forced Martin to chase. "On the second climb, Alessandro and Mauro tried an attack, but only five riders followed," Baldato said. "We just didn't have good luck today."
