Season In Review: Jim Ochowicz's View

Santa Rosa, California

A victory at a spring classic, one day in the lead at both the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, and a top 10 finish in the UCI World Rankings adds up to a satisfying performance by the BMC Racing Team in 2010, said President Jim Ochowicz.

Some Goals Met, Others Exceeded

"In a lot of ways, we surpassed our goals," Ochowicz said, reflecting back on a season that saw the BMC Racing Team's roster include the reigning world road champion (Cadel Evans), U.S. national road champion (George Hincapie), U.S. criterium champion (John Murphy) and former world road champion Alessandro Ballan. "In other ways, we met our goals. And in some instances, we didn't meet them. But all in all, it was a great season."

Misfortune At Grand Tours
The BMC Racing Team's performance at its first Grand Tour events will serve as motivation for better overall finishes in 2011, Ochowicz said. "In both of those races, things kind of slipped away from us – one with Cadel's illness to at the Giro and the other with his (elbow) injury at the Tour." But the Australian still finished fifth overall in the individual UCI World Rankings, matching his performance from the 2009 season. His victory at Flèche Wallonne was only the fifth time a rider wearing the rainbow jersey had won the Belgian Ardennes classic.
