Pinotti Fourth In Final Time Trial At Pais Vasco

7. aprile 2012

Marco Pinotti's cautious approach on rain-slick roads didn't stop him from finishing fourth in Saturday's individual time trial that capped Pais Vasco for the BMC Racing Team.

Stayed Safe
The five-time Italian national time trial champion said steady rain that fell during his 18.9-kilometer race against the clock killed some of the confidence he had while checking out the course in dry conditions. But as he piloted his BMC timemachine TM01 through the finish line, he clocked the fastest time to that point. "I tried to go as fast as possible on the straight parts and the uphills," Pinotti said. "When it's wet, you want to stay safe while going as fast as possible. It turned out I had good power in the climb and the on flat section so I'm happy with my performance." Pinotti's time was only 15 seconds slower than stage winner Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), who also won the race overall. Pinotti also took home the intermediate sprints classification, earned for winning two of three sprints while riding in a breakaway Friday.
