Key Move Goes Without BMC Racing Team

17. aprile 2011

Valkenburg, The Netherlands

The BMC Racing Team did its best to set up Greg Van Avermaet for the final climbs of Sunday's Amstel Gold Race. But the decisive move of the 260-kilometer race went up the road without him.

Lost Position

Inside the final 30 kilometers, Martin Kohler was riding strongly on the climb of the Gulperberg to help get Van Avermaet near the front. "On the Kruisberg we were on the front, but on the Eyserbosweg, we lost our good position and I was a bit too far on the climb when the favorites did their move," Van Avermaet said. "I tried to get back with the second group but we never came back." Philippe Gilbert (Omega Pharma-Lotto) took the win.
