Grand Prix Impanis-Van Petegem: Wyss seventh

21. settembre 2013

BMC Racing Team's Danilo Wyss finished seventh after attacking with five other riders from a chase group. Grand Prix Impanis-Van Petegem was won by Sep Vanmarcke (Belkin Pro Cycling Team).

Hard and fast race day

After a fast first race hour with several attacks a group of 35 riders eventually drove away from the peloton. The group included four BMC Racing Team riders: Yannick Eijssen, Philippe Gilbert, Dominik Nerz and Danilo Wyss. "Today was a really hard race and they rode fast the whole day", Wyss said. "We were in a big group of 30 riders with Phil, Dominik, Yannick and myself. We were riding for Phil, he was our leader." With almost 60-km to go three riders - Moreno Hofland, Francesco  Reda and Pieter Weening - attacked. But only Pieter Weening (Nationalmannschaft Niederlande) could stay in the front and with 25-km to go he was joined by Sep Vanmarcke. In a sprint of two Vanmarcke out-sprinted Weening and took the win. Seven seconds later the group with Danilo Wyss sprinted for the third place, after Wyss tried with a final attack in the last kilometer. "At the end I could go in a group of five. With one kilometer to go I tried to attack but they came back", Wyss said. "I'm happy with my race it was a good training for the worlds. But with a little bad luck at the end that I got not do better that seventh." BMC Racing Team riders Gilbert (20th), Eijssen (27th) and Nerz (31th) arrived 36 seconds later.
