Blythe Finishes 10th At Tour of Qatar

Doha Corniche, Qatar

Adam Blythe survived a crash-filled Tour of Qatar to finish the race in 10th place Friday, the BMC Racing Team's best-placed rider on the overall classification.

Some Bad Luck

Blythe finished second on the opening stage to eventual overall winner Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) but had some bad luck the rest of the way. He was involved in a crash on the penultimate stage, cutting his left knee and bruising his hip. That followed a late puncture on Stage 4 that cost him a chance to climb much higher in the standings. "That's the way racing goes," he said. "It's not like I could have done anything about it. I'm happy with my condition, so that's the main thing to take away from here." Friday's final stage was won by Arnaud Demare (FDJ-BigMat). BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue said a plan to set up the final sprint for Thor Hushovd was foiled when another rider rode into the former world champion's rear derailleur with 15 kilometers left in the 120 km race. "The peloton was riding flat out at that point and it was difficult for Thor to get back to the front," Lelangue said. "It was also dangerous and tricky so we didn't take any excessive risks. Overall, it was a good week. Our classics team is in good shape and working well together."
