Amgen Tour of California, Stage 6: Hincapie Rewarded

22. maggio 2010

Big Bear Lake, California

George Hincapie initiated a nearly 170-kilometer breakaway Friday on the sixth stage of the Amgen Tour of California. For his efforts, the BMC Racing Team's U.S. national road champion was honored as the Breakaway from Cancer Most Courageous Rider.

Two Stages To Go

Hincapie said the 217 km stage with seven climbs was harder than he imagined. Still, he thought his group of eight might make it to the finish. "Unfortunately two guys weren’t working too hard because they had team obligations," Hincapie said. "It was relentless with the wind and the climbs all day. It was slow torture out there.” Steve Morabito, the squad's best-placed rider overall (14th, 35 seconds behind) looks to move up even more in Saturday's 33 km time trial in Los Angeles. The BMC Racing Team lost Jackson Stewart to retirement (fatigue) Friday.
