MTB World Cup Mont St. Anne/CAN: Roger Rinderknecht fights to 2nd in 4X

3. July 2011

Mont St. Anne, Canada

Located in the Canadian region of Quebec, the winter ski resort of Mont St. Anne hosted the world's best cross-country, 4X and downhill riders. Just like it did for the past 21 years. Mont St. Anne could be called THE home of international mountainbiking.

Former 4X World Runner-Up and BMC rider, Roger Rinderknecht of Switzerland, came into the race as a favorite for one of the 4 spots in the A final. It looked good for him in the qualifying round when he sped down the 4X course 4th fastest. He knew, however, that things can change quickly in an unpredictable event such as 4X. Back in Pietermaritzburg at the first world cup round, he was quick in qualifying only to finish a disappointing 8th in the B final.

Rinderknecht rode a dominating 1/8 finals to dust his three rivals. The second round went well for him again, placing a clear 2nd behind Czech Michal Prokop to grab the last qualifying spot for round three. The Winterhur native had to face Prokop again in the semi-final in addition to former world champion Jared Graves of Australia. Half way through the race on the long jump it did not look quite as good for Rinderknecht, finding himself in 3rd position. He found a way to pass by Prokop in the final technical corners to finish second behind Graves and get that precious spot in the A final.

Rinderknecht won the Ft. Williams world cup in June. Across the pond in Canada, he added a strong 2nd place behind winner Jared Graves. "This was great. I am very happy with 2nd place. It was quite tight in the semi-final, however. I really had to fight hard for that spot in the Big Final", Rinderknecht wrapped up his Canadian 4X world cup racing.
