Cape Epic | 23 - 30 March 2014

On Sunday BMC riders Lukas Flueckiger and Martin Fanger will be at the start of the adventurous Cape Epic in Durbanville, South Africa. In the world's most prestigious mountain bike stage race, the two Swiss riders will aim for stage wins. However, during the eight days of racing they will also target the overall podium.

Amabubesi-Finisher Lukas Flückiger enters Cape Epic for the fourth time. Martin Fanger enters the race as rookie as he steps in for Ralph Näf who had to pull out of the race due to an injury.

Lukas Flückiger has confidence in his new partner. "Martin is in great shape as I had noticed when we were in Croatia recently", he says. Concerning himself he notes: "I'm able to ride at a high intensity for quite some time."

His partner is very happy about this unexpected challenge. But looking forward to eight days of racing in the heat of South Africa, he also has a lot of respect. „I feel very good, but there are eight hard and long days ahead of me. The Cape Epic is something very special. I'll will try to benefit from Lukas' experience and also listen closely to what our sportive director Alex Moos says ", explains Fanger

Based on his comprehensive Cape Epic experience Flückiger comments: "Our BMC Four Stroke FS01 and our Continental tires have been tuned for durability. In a race like this you cannot take any foolish risks. You should try to ride a smart race.

Concerning his goals, he says: „We will try to finish at the front in one or two stages. If all goes well in the overall ranking, we finally might even get a spot on the podium." One thing is, however, certain: competition is fiercer than ever.
