BMC-Triathletes starting 2012 season

22. March 2012

After several months of extensive base training most athletes within the BMC Triathlon Team are getting ready for their first race of the 2012 season. While some are tapering for their season opener others are already recovering from their first competition.

Debut I

With Irina Krichler a BMC-Newcomer was the first athlete to kick-start the season in Singapor. Not only was it her first competition on BMC it also was her first start on the Ironman 70.3 distance. With a solid 5th the triathlete from Austria was happy with her first appearance on the Ironman 70.3 circuit.

Debut II

With Greg Bennett another athlete will make his first appearance on BMC next weekend: The American finally participates in his first full-distance Ironman race at his 40th year. The passionate short distance athlete and Olympian will hit the start line at the Asia-Pacific Championship Ironman in Melbourne Australia. Bennett keeps the expectations low saying that his primary goal is to gain experience on the full Ironman-distance and to validate his spot for Kona later this year. On the same day Greg's wife Laura will also start her seaon a little further up the Australian east coast: The ITU world cup in Mooloolaba is a first test for the US-triathlete. In May Laura seeks to qualify for her second consecutive Olympic Games.

Major BMC-challenge

One week after Ironman Melbourne and WC Mooloolaba two BMC-triathletes will race each other in Texas. At the Ironman 70.3 in Galveston Ronnie Schildknecht and Michael Raelert will open their 2012 season. Lance Armstrong will join them at the starting line. After his stunning performance at the Ironman 70.3 in Panama earlier this year his participation promises a thrilling race.
