More than a race bike

The BMC fourstroke is one of the very few full suspension 29er mountain bikes successfully used on the WorldCup level. This fact alone sets it apart as an outstanding race bike. But then the fourstroke was always meant to be much more than that. The 29r wheels in conjunction with our BWC geometry, APS suspension and high overall stiffness inspire so much confidence that the BMC fourstroke is also an incredibly fast and capable trail bike.

If there is just one category the fourstroke FS01 fully belongs to, this is quite simply mountain biking.

Concept

Fast: Whether in all-carbon or aluminum guise, the full-suspension fourstroke’s big 29er wheels roll smoother and faster. Thanks to our BWC geometry, the bike feels agile and nimble, letting you effortlessly pick your way through steep, sinuous single track. For high speeds, the low bottom bracket, long top tube, and relaxed head angle work together to keep the bike stable and, above all, the rider confident.

Efficient: The FS01 is designed to dance within the 2kg frame weight barrier making it lighter than just about anything else in its category. But the feathery weight does not detract from the ride, thanks to an optimized carbon fiber design, featuring an oversized down tube, tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" headset, unified rear triangle, and 12mm x 142mm thru-axle. This all works in concert to keep the bike torsionally rigid for steering precision, and laterally rigid for power transfer. Our APS (Advanced Pivot System) suspension, specifically refined for big wheels in conjunction with our BWC, provides the perfect balance of comfort, control and efficiency.

Our fourstroke platform is designed just for this: Combining the big wheels, stable geometry, high torsional stiffness and APS suspension.BMC’s fourstroke range is capable of overcoming any obstacle, whether that’s challenging terrain or marathon distance. Big Wheel Concept

Our Big Wheel Concept geometries are dedicated to the 29er wheel size.

Simply incorporating bigger wheels does not by itself make a better bike, and we are convinced that the best bikes are made by taking advantage of large wheels and a deliberate geometry. For BMC, performance is not about the size, it’s about the details.

Agility - Short chain stays and stem combined with a low bottom bracket means the bike in not only efficient but also fun and lively.

Stability - Slacker than usual head angle combined with a long top and wide handlebars help you stay in control through the worst lines.

APS

advanced pivot system

Unsurpassed power transmission, traction control, and comfort.

The ideal suspension system converts all of a rider's energy into forward propulsion, while at the same time absorbing impacts. Mechanically, these two goals are at odds with one another. But BMC's APS rear suspension satisfies these two goals by carefully calculating the pivot points of the rear suspension so that inertial force generated under acceleration is not misdirected into compressing the shock.

How is this accomplished? With APS the virtual pivot point is positioned so that constant chain tension is maintained for forward acceleration. As such, pedaling forces are used for forward propulsion with no loss of energy transfer in the suspension system. At the same time, the shock system ensures optimum rear wheel traction, guaranteeing that those pedaling forces are not only getting to the rear wheel, but to the ground, as well. The end result is a suspension system that provides extreme power transfer efficiency, uncanny traction, and excellent comfort.
