Tour of Austria: Stage 2: Schär's Escape

5. July 2010

Kitzbüheler Horn, Austria

Michael Schär of the BMC Racing Team figured in a long, three-man breakaway Monday at the Tour of Austria before being caught on the lower slopes of the final climb.

'A Hard Day'
Schär, Gianpaolo Cheula and Edoardo Girardi led by as much as four minutes during a more than 140-kilometer escape. "It was a hard day in the break," Schär said. "I realized after a short climb that it was fast, so it was a good moment to make a move." Schär won all three intermediate sprints along the route. Riccardo Ricco (Ceramica Flaminia) soloed to win atop the Kitzbüheler Horn and take the overall lead.
