Tour de Suisse, Stage 6: Frank Keeps Lead As 'Best Swiss'

14. June 2012

Mathias Frank held onto the "Best Swiss Rider" jersey at the Tour de Suisse Thursday, but the BMC Racing Team rider said his biggest challenge awaits him in Friday's 34.3 kilometer individual time trial.

Frank Eyes Move Up The GC
Greg Van Avermaet finished 12th and Frank was 16th as Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) added to his wins on Stages 1, 3 and 4, while Rui Costa (Movistar Team) kept the overall lead. Frank said with former Swiss national time trial champion Rubens Bertogliati (Team Type 1-Sanofi) only eight seconds behind him in the Best Swiss classification, it will take his best effort to keep the jersey. "I hope I can do a good time trial even though it's not really my first objective to be the best Swiss," Frank said. "But it's for sure a nice thing. My goal is clear. I want to move up in the GC." Frank is the best-placed BMC Racing Team rider (22nd, 1:37 behind). BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Rik Verbrugghe said he is interested to see how Steve Cummings fares in the race against the clock. "He's still coming off his crash in California, but I think he is fresh and wants to show something," Verbrugghe said. "We'll see how he is and it could be important for the selection for the Tour de France."
