Tour de Romandie, Stage 5: Uphill Time Trial

29. April 2012

The BMC Racing Team closed the Tour de Romandie Sunday with Steve Morabito finishing 27th overall and Cadel Evans 29th following a 16.2-kilometer uphill time trial.

Tschopp Tops On The Team
Johann Tschopp performed best for the BMC Racing Team in the race against the clock. Riding his BMC teammachine SLR01, he finished 29th, 1:29 behind stage winner Bradley Wiggins (Sky Pro Cycling) who also won the race overall. Evans was 40th, 1:45 behind, while Morabito was 41st, 1:47 behind. Morabito said it was a satisfying performance in his home country in a race in which his primary objective was to help team leaders Evans and Tejay van Garderen, who had to withdraw Saturday after being struck in the face by a tree branch. "I was feeling better day-by-day and worked well for Cadel and Tejay," Morabito said. "It's a pity he (van Garderen) had that incident. But I'm happy ahead of the Amgen Tour of California and it's always a pleasure for me to work for riders who are better than me."

Evans Looks Ahead
Evans said he is starting to ride into better form after a sinus infection slowed him after his victory at Critérium International last month. "I'm sorry I couldn't have a bit more strength to put on the course and put on the results sheet," he said. "When you come here with the No. 1 on your back, like I came here to Romandie, you come to win here . Unfortunately, things haven't been going so well for me this year for reasons a little bit beyond my control. But now things are coming together, which – going toward July and August – is probably more and more important for my year overall."
