Tour de France, Stage 7: Evans Into Second

10. July 2010

Station des Rousses, France

World champion Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team moved into second overall Saturday at the Tour de France after a hot first day in the mountains.

Comfortable Position
Evans is 1:25 behind Sylvain Chavanel (Quick Step), who soloed to win the 165-kilometer stage and replace Fabian Cancellara as overall leader. The Australian said he was fine not taking the yellow jersey, which would have put pressure on the BMC Racing Team. "Tomorrow is going to be more of a real shake-up," Evans said. "You saw the GC guys all looking at each other today."

Tough Stage Sunday
Sunday's 189 km stage features a mountain-top finish in Morzine-Avoriaz. " I think it'll be another day where the main GC contenders are looking at themselves, testing themselves," Evans said. "We'll see if someone really wants to lay it on the line and try and blow it apart. Someone like Alberto (Contador) or Lance (Armstrong), it's probably in their best interest to do that. It's not like they've got that much too lose. For me, I'll see how they go and how I go."
