Greg Van Avermaet sprinted to sixth place Thursday for the BMC Racing Team at Tirreno-Adriatico after teammate Marcus Burghardt put in an impressive attack in the final kilometers.
Make It Harder
With the race destined to end in a field sprint, Burghardt said he saw an opportunity. "The streets were really small and George (Hincapie) was behind me so he could block a little bit of the road and we could make the race a little bit harder," Burghardt said. "When the guy from Vancansoleil passed me, I knew it wasn't going to work. But I tried." Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Cervelo) took the win and the overall lead.
Paris-Nice, Stage 5: Difficult Day
Vernoux-en-Vivarais, France - Amaël Moinard and Steve Morabito led the BMC Racing Team to the finish Thursday at Paris-Nice, but conceded nearly three minutes on the first decisive day of the eight-day race.
Moinard 43rd, Morabito 44th
"We made a little plan to attack on the first of three climbs toward the end," BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue said. "We put some guys - Amaël and Steve - on the offensive to try to make a selection." Eventually, the pair was unable to follow the attacks on the penultimate, eight-kilometer climb and finished together, 2:51 behind stage winner and new race leader Andreas Kloden (Team Radioshack)." Friday's stage is a 27-kilometer individual time trial.
