Ster ZLM Toer, Stage 3: Wyss On The Attack

15. June 2013

Danilo Wyss attacked in the final kilometer Saturday at Ster ZLM Toer but the BMC Racing Team rider was brought back and finished ninth to climb into 10th place overall with one day of the race to go.

Recovering From The Giro
Wyss said the 186-kilometer race that finished in Belgium – which featured about 2,800 meters of climbing – suited him well. "I had an opportunity to go on the last climb so I tried," he said. "I had nothing to lose. It didn't work, but it was a good race for me." Lars Boom took the victory to give Blanco Pro Cycling Team its third win in four days, following triumphs by teammates Robert Wagner in the prologue and Theo Bos on Stage 1. Boom also displaced previous race leader, Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano). Last month, Wyss finished his fourth straight Giro d'Italia, helping teammate Cadel Evans finish third overall. "This is a good race to come back after the Giro," Wyss said. "The level isn't too high so it gives me some opportunities on the flat windy stages and on the hilly stages. So it was good." Sunday's final stage is back in the Netherlands for a 176.2 km race from Gerwen to Boxtel.
