A strong side wind and attacks to the finish in West Flanders

7. March 2010

Ichtegem

The third and last stage of “Three Days of West Flanders”, 194.5 km from Middelkerke to Ichtegem, was characterized by many attacks and a side wind. “It was very difficult; Alex Moos gave up after 120 km, John Murphy didn’t start because of a cold. Danilo Wyss, Martin Kohler and Simon Zahner gave it everything they had, but in the end they didn’t have enough strength left for the sprint,” said team manager René Savary. He added that Simon Zahner coped best with the conditions in Flanders. “He performed better and better at each stage, but he is no sprinter,” is how Savary explained the best result of the day with 16th place. The final sprint was won by Kris Boeckmans (Topsport Vlaanderen). The overall victor was Jans Keukeleire of Cofidis.
