Ironman World Championships 2012, Kailua Kona, Hawaii.

9. ottobre 2012

Kona, Hawaii

Raceweek Tuesday

Athletes and crew from BMC Switzerland have all arrived on Big Island and are now in the last straight line for the annual World Championships Ironman in Kona. At least 4 BMC pro triathletes will be competing for the win on Saturday. Andreas and Michael Raelert arrived on Big Island from Florida, Ronnie Schildknecht and Greg Bennett are the other 2 top contenders. They spend the last days of the pre-race tapering period controlling their race equipment, making sure every single detail is prepared for this Saturday.

Stefano Cattai from BMC Switzerland is in charge of the mechanical race support and has worked our athletes' bikes during the last 2 days. Being an former professional cyclist himself, he understands better than anyone else how important a perfect set-up is.

For the last 2 days, the city of Kailua Kona was partially covered by so called vog, volcanic fog, an extra hurdle for the preparing athletes as it makes the air harder to breath, besides the normal hot temperatures and high humidity.

The kick off for the official race program was this evenings Nations Parade, a platform for all participating nations to present themselves.

Join us tomorrow for a pre-race interview with Ronnie Schildknecht!
