Critérium du Dauphiné, Stage 4: Evans and van Garderen in the Top 15

7. juin 2012

BMC Racing Team leader Cadel Evans and teammate Tejay van Garderen both finished in the top 15 in the Critérium du Dauphiné's 53-kilometer time trial Thursday.

On The Same Level As Last Season
Cadel Evans crossed the line in eighth position, 1:45 behind stage winner Bradley Wiggins (Sky Pro Cycling), and Tejay van Garderen scored the second best time of BMC Racing Team competitors with a thirteenth place finish (2:28 behind). Evans, a former road world champion, explained he lost time between the first and second intermediary. « I've had some troubles there. I felt I lost power in the flat and straight road. I need to work on it, but as I said already, I still need to make some improvements before the Tour (de France). » Evans said despite being a bit disappointed, he stayed confident. « I was hoping for a better result, but when compared to last year, it was about the same. I was not at the level of the specialists at that moment of the season last year either. » Evans is now ranked fifth overall, 1:44 behind Wiggins. BMC Racing Team's Director Sportif John Lelangue said the mountain stages coming up could offer some opportunities « There are still three beautiful stages to come and we hope to see some action there. » Lelangue said the results of this time trial show that Evans is following the same path as last year in preparation for the Tour de France. «We'll analyze the points to work on, and we have also to consider that during the Tour, the long time trial will take place after three weeks of racing, and that can change many things. »
