Ronnie Schildknecht starts 2012 season early

23. January 2012

Only a few months after his first Sub8 performance at the Ironman Florida Schildknecht already started his 2012 season at the Ironman 70.3 in South Africa. With a solid second place finish the Zurich resident proofed to be in a good shape early this year.

Schildknecht exited the water in seventh place losing about one minute to his strongest competitor Marino Vanhoenacker from Belgium. On the bike the Swiss wasn't able to perform as usual and lost continously time on the soon leading Vanhoenacker. After three weeks in South Africa Schildknecht probably didn't fully recover from the huge training load he had done since he arrived on the southern hemisphere. Even though he was disappointed after the bikesplit he started the run with a fast pace. The fastest run split of the day assured Schildknecht a solid second place finish behind the winner Vanhoenacker. Schildknecht started his racing season unusally early this year and proofed once more that he can manage to build up a good fitness level in a short period of time.
