Reto Indergand 2nd at the Swiss XC Marathon-season opener in Estavayer-le-Lac

8. June 2014

Estavayer-le-Lac - ELSA Bike Trophy

Left behind by the Swiss National squad who raced at the European Championships in St. Wendel this weekend, Reto Indergand signed up for the first leg of the Swiss XC Marathon series in the western part of Switzerland. With its 60 kilometers the course very much resembles a cross country race, however, there were far less technical sections to make a move.

In Switzerland the weather conditions were just as extreme as in St. Wendel, making the race very fast. From the start, Reto Indergand was in the lead group together with the current XCM World Champion Christoph Sauser and other marathon specialists.

"Christoph would increase the speed in the climbs but in the flats we weren't going super fast", Reto explained after the race. "I always knew that the first two hours would go well, but after that it was more of an experiment. In the very end, I didn't quite have the punch to follow Sauser's speed but I had a good gap so I just finished the race at my pace. I'm very happy with my result and coming second after the World Marathon Champion is certainly no disgrace!"
