Raelert Brothers: Andreas victorious at Cologne Triathlon

6. September 2011

Cologne, Germany

It was the last chance to test his shape under racing conditions before the big showdown on October 9th on the island of Hawaii. Andreas Raelert won his fifth triathlon race of the season at the second edition of the Cologne Triathlon. The list of victories 2011 is long: Ironman 70.3 Mallorca, Challenge Kraichgau, Erding City Triathlon, and Challenge Roth. The German's dominance continued in Cologne where he won the half ironman distance in 3:48:25 hrs. ahead of fellow countrymen Per Bittner (3:50:18 hrs.) and Andreas Deitz (4:03:38 hrs.).

Highlight 2011: Ironman Hawaii

The season's highlight of Ironman world record holder Andreas Raelert is waiting around the corner. The shape is there. It will be the mind that will decide between winner and "losers" mid October in Kailua Kona at the Ironman World Championship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. He finished third at his Hawaii debut in 2009. In 2010, he duelled for the win with Chris McCormack and ended up close second. For 2011, his goal is simple: to become world champion.

Hawaii: one-million-dollar-challenge postponed to 2012

Andreas Raelert is not a lone warrior on the triathlon battlefield. He has been building a joined and seemingly unbeatable force with his younger brother Michael. Michael is a two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion bound to test himself at the ironman distance. His debut at the full distance was set to take place at the 2011 Ironman Frankfurt. However, an injury has put him on the sidelines for the season. Hence, the joined Raelert Brothers attendance at the Ironman Hawaii had to be postponed to 2012. It will now be October 2012 when the Raelert Brothers will hunt the one-million-dollar jackpot set out by running shoe sponsor K SWISS for a one-two finish.

Michael's injury is giving the pair from Norther Germany another year to prepare for their big day. Hawaii 2011 is an intermediate goal. An important one. Will the name "Raelert" be added to the list of all-time Hawaii winners? To be seen. Soon. On October 9th, 2011.
