MTB World Cup Windham/USA: Preview

8. July 2011

Windham, NY / USA

The MTB World Cup circus is going into its second and last round of its North American stint. A week after the first round at Canada's Mont St. Anne world cup, the off-road caravan drove 800 kilometers South to upstate New York in the United States. The ski resort of Windham Mountain is hosting the 6th round of the 2011 UCI MTB World Cup series this weekend.

Windham became part of the world cup series in 2010. The event became one of the few to host all three mountainbike disciplines: cross-country, downhill, and 4X. The ink was still fresh on the UCI calendar when 4X had to be scratched from the schedule. Due to issues with ski, environmental protection and NYC water supply authorities, the 4X course had to be removed. Hence, BMC-rider Roger Rinderknecht has flown home to Switzerland prematurely to prepare for the upcoming BMX World Championships.

The rest of the BMC cross country riders had 7 days to recover from the brutal Mont St. Anne course and weather conditions. BMC is lining up with the same forces as they did in Quebec. BMC's hottest call for podium glory is Stephen Ettinger in the men's U23 race. Ettinger is coming back from 6th and 5th place finished at the past two world cups in Offenburg and Mont St. Anne.

German Champion Moritz Milatz of BMC Mountainbike Raicng Team is aiming at making up for his sub-par performance last weekend. His teammate Patrik Gallati is very motivated by his 13th-place finish in Canada. The pair should be able to mix it up in the men's elite category.
