Michael Raelert wins the Asia Pacific Championship in Phuket

5. December 2011

With a confident victory and the seventh title in the  Ironman 70.3 parade distance, Michael Raelert concluded the current season with a strong result.

Phuket, Thailand. He started the race as the clear favorite - and lived up to the high expectations: The two-time Ironman 70.3 World Champion and holder of the world record for the half distance, Michael Raelert outsmarted his competitors at the Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship in Phuket. Raelert emerged from the water already in second place only one second behind, stayed at the front on his bike and already took the lead at the beginning of the running split: Calling Michael Raelert's success in Phuket supreme is not an exaggeration. After all, the 31-year-old Rostock native capped his performance with by far the fastest half marathon time of the day and left a total of 4 Australians behind him in the heavy rain. And he did so in an impressive manner: With a deficit of almost six seconds, Richie Cunningham and Paul Matthews were only able to secure second and third place. Fellow favorite Chris Lieto had to give up after crashing during the bike split.
