Lukas Flueckiger delighted with 3rd in Gränichen

15. June 2014

Gränichen - BMC Racing Cup

In the fourth leg of the BMC Racing Cup in Graenichen Lukas Flückiger was able to deliver the
performance he is used to. He secured the 3rd podium spot in the hors catégorie race and was relieved to
now take a few days off the bike with a positive mindset. Reto Indergand finished 6th.

Just before the race Lukas Flückiger was somewhat skeptical. The past few weeks were just too
negative for him to expect a sudden turnaround. At the flower ceremony he was clearly relieved and more than happy to step up onto the podium.

"That was finally a step into the right direction. I'm more relaxed to spend a few days off the bike with a
result like this". Right up until the final lap he fought a battle against the Vice European Champion Martin Giger and his brother Mathias Flückiger - entertaining the crowd that was gathered around the gravel-pit. "The first two rounds were not my best which meant that I had to put the hammer down. Maybe that cost me too much energy to fight to the very end", explained Lukas Flückiger.

Reto Indergand also had a bad start and paid for his efforts later on. "Right at the beginning I missed the group and consequently pushed too hard. I had to recover for a bit after that", Reto said. In the final lap he went for it and only missed the top 5 by eleven seconds.

Julien Absalon was not able to race after he hurt his knee when he slipped on some loose gravel during training. Julien's knee needed immediate medical attention and so he spent the night in the hospital before travelling home the next day.
