Bike Days Solothurn: Gallati fifth; three riders in the top 15

7. May 2011

Solothurn, Switzerland

It was a successful day for BMC at the Solothurn Bike Days. On BMC home soil three athletes managed to place in the top 15: Patrik Gallati lead his team with a fifth-place finish. 38-year-old sports director Alex Moos maxed out his leg speed finishing in 9th. Stephen Ettinger from the BMC MTB Development Team brought fresh air into Switzerland: racing for the U.S. national team, he rode to a strong 12th place and ended up 2nd in the U23 category.

Patrik Gallati is approaching world class in the elite category step by step. Last year's U23 world championship bronze medal winner jumped into the footsteps of BMC team leader Moritz Milatz who crashed out of the race in the first corner. In the meantime, Gallati stuck to the rear wheels of big names such as world champions Nino Schurter (Swisspower/SUI) and Christoph Sauser ( Specialized/SUI).

"Nino Schurter attacked during the second lap. I subsequently fell out of the lead group but was able to fight my way back. When Nino attacked again together with Christoph Sauser, the group fell into pieces. I am extremely happy with my performance. It is going better and better every race. But the races are getting harder, too", wraps up Gallati.

It is not only Europeans that ride fast on a BMC Team Elite TE01. 22-year-old Stephen Ettinger from BMC MTB Development Team USA proved the opposite by finishing only 3:41 minutes behind race winner Nino Schurter. Ettinger's U.S. teammates also fared well on their BMC bikes, placing 33rd (Kerry Werner) and 36th (Jack Hinkens).

Yves Corminboeuf of the BMC Mountainbike Racing Team showed that he is on an upward slope. He was content with his 39th-place finish. Not so Balz Weber: "I didn't have good legs today at all. I felt tired all week long. I was unable to recover from last week's bike marathon around Lake Garda".

There will be another chance to test one's luck soon at the MTB Bundesliga in Saalhausen, Germany, on May 15th where BMC's complete squad will line up to the start.
