Absalon hunting for record at "Rumble in the Rainforest"

27. April 2014

Cairns, Australia - UCI Mountainbike World Cup presented by Shimano

Julien Absalon will try to defend his World Cup lead in the tropical heat of Cairns next Sunday and write another chapter in the history of mountain biking.

For the first time ever a mountain biker from the BMC Mountainbike Racing Team wears the white World Cup leader's jersey. "I would love to return to Europe wearing the white jersey. In Pietermaritzburg I was already feeling better than expected", says Absalon prior to the second World Cup race of the season. The Frenchman sounds almost a bit too restrained because there is no reason whatsoever why he should not aim for the 28th World Cup victory of his career.

With a win at the "Rumble in the Rainforest" in Down Under, Absalon would write another chapter in the history of mountain biking, equalizing the World Cup record set by the two ladies Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå and Juli Furtado. "It would be great to reach this mark, the sooner the better", says Absalon.

Moritz Milatz who crashed heavily in Pietermaritzburg is ready to put up a fight in the jungle. Martin Fanger showed an exceptional form in South Africa - only being tied back by a technical problem. Reto Indergand who stepped up to the elite category will make his Wolrd Cup debut in Cairns along with Stephen Ettinger, the newly crowned Pan American cross country champion.
