Vuelta a España, Stage 1: Team Time Trial

23. August 2014

The BMC Racing Team finished ninth in the team time trial that opened the Vuelta a España Saturday.

A Slow Start
On a 12.9-kilometer course made technical by a number of roundabouts, the BMC Racing Team piloted its BMC timemachine TM01s to a time of 14:34, 21 seconds slower than winner Movistar Team. Cannondale Pro Cycling was second and ORICA-GreenEDGE was third, both six seconds off the winning time. BMC Racing Team Sport Director Valerio Piva said a slow start cost the squad a better place. "We lost 14 seconds in the first part of the parcours," Piva said. "Our second part was much better." The second stage of the three-week race is a 174.4-kilometer road race.
